Fire Suppression Assessment
From the Board of Directors
We cannot say that we are not disappointed with the results of the assessment ballot. As a board, we believe that we presented a reasonable plan to improve service in a large part of the district and maintain a high level of service in the rest. At the outset of the process, the board resolved to let the property owners decide the level of service they wanted; we provided our recommendations and cost analysis, but the decision rests with the people. We also vowed that no matter the outcome, we would live within the income the landowners felt appropriate.
The people have spoken, and the level of service we provide will be the best that we can afford. We will continue to seek operational efficiencies and will look for additional opportunities. We will not deficit spend, however. We believe the vote is a product of taxpayer frustration and personal economic decisions and not a reflection on the service we provide.
The professionalism and dedication of our paid staff, our volunteers and the board will remain unchanged. We are very proud of this district and its members. The vote is not an indictment of the efforts of those dedicated individuals, all of whom can hold their heads high for a job well done! |
